FROM TECHNOLOGY MODULES TO DEVICES AND NEW CIRCUIT ARCHITECTURES Leti innovates in various fields of data storage technologies: silicon based, resistive memories, magnetoresistive memories, superresolution optical discs etc. Leti has helped its industrial partners address multiple needs: CVD tool development for the deposition of phase change materials, optimization of materials for embedded phase change memories, transfer of technology modules in silicon based memories

Rapidly developing MEMS mean smarter, cheaper sensors Silicon-based MEMS sensors continue to develop in the automotive and consumer electronics sectors. Using its expertise in RF communications and power management, Leti is looking for new applications for these sensors as the technology develops.

A system-level approach for new applications In recent years, we have become accustomed to using RF wireless technology for telephone calls, Internet access and navigation. Going forward, RF will be a basic enabling technology for multiple applications, from high-speed data transmission to networks of tiny autonomous sensors and in-body therapeutic devices.

Nano-scale technology promises better sensors After 25 years of developing micron-size microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices for automotive, consumer electronics and biomedical uses, Leti is pioneering a new generation of even smaller, nanometer-scale nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS).

Bringing photonics and electronics together Leti's research strives to develop low-cost manufacturing processes for integrating high-speed, CMOS-compatible optical communications with integrated circuits.

Optimizing image sensors Developing better image sensor technologies from X-rays up to terahertz wavelength requires mastering and merging disparate fields such as optics, image sensors and image processing electronics.

Better, higher-performing images for medicine, security CdTe/CZT detectors combine Leti’s expertise in microtechnologies, system integration, and image processing. Ionizing radiation images are powerful tools for applications as diverse as medical X-rays, imaging of metabolic pathways, and nuclear- and explosive-materials detection. All these areas benefit from detectors with improved sensitivity and better spatial and spectral resolution.

Lighting initiative aims for increased efficiency Leti is involved in a wide range of innovative research and development programs focused on improving the efficiency, quality and reliability of light-emitting diode (LED) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies.

Picturing tiny displays that can deliver a perfect image directly to the surface of the eyes Flat panel displays are increasingly common and growing larger as consumer products. The challenge is to create high-resolution microdisplays (only a centimeter across) that project information directly to the eyes of the user. With Leti’s expertise, this challenge is being met.

Developing the potential of bio systems on a chip Bio systems on a chip (BIOSOC) have multiple applications that can provide the healthcare industry instant results at point-of-care. Biologists will be able to immediately detect air- and water-borne pathogens or infectious diseases in minute blood samples

Innovative sensors for revolutionary medical applications Leti is at the forefront of developing concepts for wearable devices for physiological measurement and implantable devices for monitoring and treating health conditions.
